Applications

The GDV-20-385-1+1-FM is used for Class II lightning overvoltage protection of single-phase AC power supplies. It is suitable for installation in AC power distribution systems where protection between L-N and N-PE is required.

Installation and Use

The device can be connected using the conventional direct parallel wiring or V-shaped wiring shown in the wiring diagram. For better protection with direct parallel wiring, keep the wiring as short as possible, with a total length within 0.5 m.

Use 4-16 mm² multi-core copper conductors for the connection. A suitable circuit breaker or fuse must be connected upstream of the device; the circuit breaker should have a C trip characteristic.

Disconnect the power supply before installation. Live operation is strictly prohibited. The connecting conductors must meet the requirements.

When the SPD is working normally, the status indicator window is green, the alarm dry contact NC-COM is conducting, and the alarm dry contact NO-COM is open. When the SPD fails, the status indicator turns red, the alarm dry contact NC-COM becomes open, and the alarm dry contact NO-COM becomes conducting.

The SPD requires no special maintenance. Periodically check whether the module is loose and whether the status indication is normal.

The SPD can be judged as failed and should be replaced promptly if either of the following occurs: the status indicator turns red, or the alarm dry contact becomes open.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the L-N and N-PE protection levels?

The L-N voltage protection level Up is ≤1.2 kV, and the N-PE voltage protection level Up is ≤0.8 kV, both measured at In with an 8/20 µs waveform.

How do I know when the SPD has failed?

When the SPD fails, the status indicator changes from green to red, and the alarm dry contact NC-COM becomes open while NO-COM becomes conducting.

What conductor size should be used?

Use 4-16 mm² multi-core copper conductors for the connection.
