Description
The GBV-100-385-3+1-27 is a 3+1 configuration surge protective device in the GBV-100 series, intended for second-stage (Class B) lightning and surge protection of load equipment in power supply systems. It limits transient overvoltages on the AC supply and indicates its own status through a color-changing window.
Product Overview
The GBV-100 series power surge protective device is used for second-stage (Class B) lightning protection and surge immunity of load equipment in power supply systems. The GBV-100-385-3+1-27 variant uses a 3+1 pole configuration with a maximum continuous operating voltage Uc of 385 V and a nominal discharge current In of 50 kA (8/20 µs).
The device is designed for parallel connection to the power line and is mounted on a 35 mm electrical DIN rail. It can be installed in LPZ0B zones or directly inside distribution cabinets (switch boxes).

Applications
The GBV-100-385-3+1-27 is used for second-stage (Class B) lightning protection and surge protection of load equipment in power supply systems. It can be installed in LPZ0B zones or directly inside distribution cabinets (switch boxes).
Installation and Use
- Inspect the surge protective device before installation. Do not install the device if it shows any defect.
- Use the device only within the conditions stated in its technical table. Exceeding the given upper limits may damage the surge protective device or the protected equipment.
- Installation must follow the relevant standards and specifications for the protective device and must be carried out by qualified professional personnel in front of the electronic equipment to be protected.
- The device can be installed in LPZ0B zones or directly inside distribution cabinets (switch boxes).
- Mount the device on a 35 mm electrical DIN rail.
- Connect the surge protective device in parallel to the power line. “L/+” connects to the power phase line or positive line; “N/-” connects to the power neutral line or negative line. The copper conductor cross-section at both ends of the device is 10–35 mm².
- For a surge protective device installed on a circuit, an overcurrent protection device such as an air switch or fuse must be installed upstream.
- Connect the surge protective device to ground using the shortest possible line. Grounding is by terminal connection; the ground line must be connected to the lightning protection ground line.
- Keep the line protected by the surge protective device at a sufficient safe distance from the incoming line and ground line to avoid secondary induction on the line.
- When installed within the specified conditions, the surge protective device does not require long-term maintenance; only routine system maintenance is needed. If the white indicator window turns red during use, the surge protective device is damaged and must be repaired or replaced.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the status window indicate?
A white indicator window means the device is normal. A red indicator window means the device has failed and must be repaired or replaced.
How is the GBV-100-385-3+1-27 connected?
It is connected in parallel to the power line. “L/+” connects to the power phase line or positive line, and “N/-” connects to the power neutral line or negative line. The grounding terminal must be connected to the lightning protection ground line.
What conductor cross-section is used for connection?
The copper conductor cross-section at both ends of the device is 10–35 mm², using stranded conductors.
What upstream protection is required?
An overcurrent protection device such as an air switch or fuse must be installed upstream of the surge protective device on the circuit.
