Description

The GBV-120-385-3+1 FM is a Class II surge protective device (SPD) designed for lightning overvoltage protection of single-phase AC power supplies. It is rated for a nominal operating voltage Un of 220V~ and a maximum continuous operating voltage Uc of 385V~, with a 3+1 pole configuration.

Product Overview

The device limits transient overvoltages on AC power lines through a 3+1 configuration. It provides separate voltage protection levels for the L-N and N-PE paths and includes a status indicator window plus a remote signalling changeover contact for monitoring.

Key Features

  • Class II SPD for single-phase AC power supply protection
  • Nominal discharge current In: 60kA; maximum discharge current Imax: 120kA
  • L-N voltage protection level Up (In@8/20µs): 3.0kV; N-PE Up (In@8/20µs): 2.0kV
  • Fast response: L-N tA 25ns; N-PE tA 100ns
  • Status indicator window: white = normal, red = failed
  • Remote signalling changeover contact: NC-COM-NO (NC-COM normally closed, NO-COM normally open)
  • 35mm DIN rail mounting
  • PBT housing with UL94-V0 flame retardance rating; IP20 enclosure protection

Applications

The GBV-120-385-3+1 FM is intended for Class II lightning overvoltage protection of single-phase AC power supplies.

Installation and Use

  • The device can be connected by conventional direct parallel wiring or V-shaped wiring. For better protection with direct parallel wiring, keep the wiring as short as possible, with total length controlled within 0.5m.
  • Connecting conductors should be 16-35mm² multi-core copper conductors.
  • A suitable air circuit breaker or fuse should be connected in series ahead of the SPD; the air circuit breaker should use C trip characteristics.
  • Power must be disconnected during installation. Live operation is strictly prohibited, and connecting conductors must meet the requirements.
  • During normal operation, the status indicator window is white and the alarm dry contact NC-COM is in the conducting state. When the SPD fails, the status indication turns red and the alarm dry contact NC-COM is in the open state.
  • The SPD requires no special maintenance; only periodic checks are needed for module looseness and correct status indication.
  • The SPD is considered failed and should be replaced promptly if either of the following occurs: the status indication turns red, or the alarm dry contact becomes open.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the status indicator window show?

White indicates normal operation; red indicates the SPD has failed.

How is the remote signalling contact configured?

It is a changeover contact with NC-COM-NO terminals: NC-COM is normally closed and NO-COM is normally open. During normal operation NC-COM is conducting; on failure NC-COM becomes open.

What conductor size is required for the main connections?

Use 16-35mm² multi-core copper conductors, with a maximum torque of 3.5Nm~4.5Nm.

What should be installed ahead of the SPD?

A suitable air circuit breaker or fuse should be connected in series ahead of the SPD, with the air circuit breaker using C trip characteristics.
