Description

The GCV-40-385-3+1-FM is a Class II surge protective device (SPD) designed for lightning overvoltage protection of three-phase AC power supplies. It is configured in a 3+1 arrangement, providing protection between line and neutral (L-N) and between neutral and protective earth (N-PE). The device is intended for installation on a 35mm DIN rail.

Product Overview

The GCV-40-385-3+1-FM operates with a nominal working voltage Un of 220V~. Its maximum continuous operating voltage Uc is 385V~ for the L-N path and 255V~ for the N-PE path. The SPD is classified as Class II and uses a 3+1 pole configuration for three-phase AC systems.

Status indication is provided for both the L-N and N-PE paths: green indicates normal operation and red indicates a failed state. A remote signalling changeover contact is included for monitoring.

Applications

The GCV-40-385-3+1-FM is used for Class II lightning overvoltage protection of three-phase AC power supplies. It is suitable for installation in AC power distribution systems where surge protection is required between line and neutral and between neutral and protective earth.

Installation and Use

The device can be connected using the conventional direct parallel wiring or V-shaped wiring method. For better protection performance with direct parallel wiring, keep the connection conductors as short as possible, with a total length within 0.5m.

Use 10-25mm² multi-core copper conductors for the connections. A suitable circuit breaker or fuse must be connected upstream of the SPD; for the circuit breaker, use a C trip characteristic.

Disconnect the power supply before installation. Live operation is strictly prohibited. The connecting conductors must meet the specified requirements.

During normal operation, the status indicator window should be green. When the SPD has failed, the status indicator turns red. The SPD requires no special maintenance; periodically check whether the module is loose and whether the status indication is normal.

The SPD can be judged as failed and should be replaced promptly if either of the following occurs: the status indicator turns red, or the alarm dry contact changes to an open-circuit state.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the 3+1 configuration mean?

The 3+1 configuration provides surge protection for three line-to-neutral paths plus one neutral-to-protective-earth path in a three-phase AC system.

How can I tell if the SPD has failed?

A red status indicator on the L-N or N-PE path indicates failure. A change of the alarm dry contact to an open-circuit state also indicates failure.

What conductor size should be used?

Use 10-25mm² multi-core copper conductors. The conductor connection capacity of the device is ≤25mm².

What upstream protection is required?

A suitable circuit breaker or fuse must be connected upstream of the SPD. For the circuit breaker, use a C trip characteristic.
