Description
The GCV-40/385/2 FM is a Class II AC power surge protective device (SPD) intended for lightning overvoltage protection of single-phase AC power supplies. It limits surge voltages between L/N and PE, and provides a status indicator and a remote signalling contact for condition monitoring.
Product Overview
The GCV-40/385/2 FM is a 2-pole AC power SPD classified as Class II. It is rated for a nominal operating voltage Un of 220V~ and a maximum continuous AC operating voltage Uc of 385V~. Surge protection is provided between L/N and PE, with a voltage protection level Up of 1.8kV measured at In under an 8/20µs waveform and a response time tA of 25ns.
The device is mounted on a 35mm DIN rail and is intended for installation with an upstream circuit breaker or fuse. A status indicator window shows green during normal operation and red when the SPD has failed. A changeover remote signalling contact allows the operating state to be monitored remotely.

Applications
The GCV-40/385/2 FM is used for Class II lightning overvoltage protection on single-phase AC power supplies. It is suitable for installation in AC power distribution systems where surge protection is required between L/N and PE.
Installation and Use
The GCV-40/385/2 FM can be connected using the conventional direct parallel wiring method or the V-shaped wiring method. For better protection performance with direct parallel wiring, the wiring should be as short as possible, with a total length controlled within 0.5m.
Connecting conductors should be 4-16mm² multi-core copper conductors. A suitable circuit breaker or fuse must be connected upstream of the SPD, and the circuit breaker should have a C tripping characteristic.
Power must be disconnected during installation. Live operation is strictly prohibited, and connecting conductors must meet the specified requirements.
During normal operation, the status indicator window should be green, the alarm dry contact NC-COM should be conducting, and the alarm dry contact NO-COM should be open. When the SPD fails, the status indicator turns red, the alarm dry contact NC-COM becomes open, and the alarm dry contact NO-COM becomes conducting.
The SPD requires no special maintenance. Regularly check whether the module is loose and whether the status indicator is normal.
The SPD can be judged as failed and should be replaced promptly if either of the following occurs: the status indicator turns red, or the alarm dry contact becomes open.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the status indicator show?
Green indicates normal operation; red indicates the SPD has failed and should be replaced.
How is the SPD mounted?
It is mounted on a 35mm DIN rail.
What conductor size is recommended?
Use 4-16mm² multi-core copper conductors for connection.
What upstream protection is required?
A suitable circuit breaker or fuse with a C tripping characteristic should be connected upstream of the SPD.
