Description
The GCV-40-385-1+1 is a 385V AC power surge protective device in the GCV-40 series, intended for second-stage (Class C) lightning and surge protection of load equipment in power supply systems. It is connected in parallel to the supply line and is rated for a nominal discharge current In of 20kA and a maximum discharge current Imax of 40kA under the 8/20μs test waveform.
Product Overview
The GCV-40 series is used for second-stage (Class C) lightning protection and surge protection of load equipment in power supply systems. The GCV-40-385-1+1 has a maximum continuous operating voltage Uc of 385V and a voltage protection level Up of 1.8kV at In. Response time is ≤25ns for the L-N path and ≤100ns for the N-PE path. The N-PE path has a maximum continuous operating voltage Uc of 255V and a voltage protection level Up of 1.0kV at In.
The device is installed in parallel on the power line. The “L/+” terminal connects to the phase line or positive line, and the “N/-” terminal connects to the neutral line or negative line. A status window shows green when the device is normal and red when it has failed.

Applications
The GCV-40-385-1+1 is used for second-stage (Class C) lightning protection and surge protection of load equipment in power supply systems. It can be installed in LPZ1 zones or directly inside distribution cabinets (switch boxes).
Installation and Use
- Before installation, inspect the surge protective device. Do not install it if any defect is present.
- Use the device only within the conditions specified in the technical table. Exceeding the given upper limits may damage the surge protective device or the protected equipment.
- Installation must follow the relevant standards and specifications for the protective device and must be carried out by qualified professional personnel in front of the electronic equipment to be protected.
- The device can be installed in LPZ1 zones or directly in distribution cabinets (switch boxes).
- It can be fixed on a 35mm electrical DIN rail.
- Connect the device in parallel to the power line: “L/+” to the phase line or positive line, “N/-” to the neutral line or negative line. The copper conductor cross-section at both ends of the device is 10-35mm².
- An air switch, fuse, or other overcurrent protection device must be installed ahead of the surge protective device in the circuit.
- Connect the ground of the surge protective device with the shortest possible wire. Grounding is by terminal connection; the ground wire must be connected to the lightning protection ground.
- Keep the protected line at a sufficient safe distance from the incoming line and ground line to avoid secondary induction.
- Under conditions not exceeding the requirements, installation does not require long-term maintenance; only routine system maintenance is needed. If the green indicator window turns red during use, the surge protective device is damaged and must be repaired or replaced.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do the indicator colors mean?
Green indicates the device is normal. Red indicates the device has failed and needs repair or replacement.
How is the GCV-40-385-1+1 connected?
It is connected in parallel to the power line. “L/+” connects to the phase or positive line, and “N/-” connects to the neutral or negative line, using 10-35mm² multi-strand copper conductors.
What overcurrent protection is required ahead of the device?
An air switch, fuse, or other overcurrent protection device must be installed ahead of the surge protective device in the circuit. The specified backup fuse is 32Agl/gG.
What is the operating temperature range?
The device operates from -40℃ to +80℃.
