Description
The GBV-80-385-2FM-27 is a 2-pole AC power surge protective device (SPD) in the GBV-80 series. It is intended for surge and lightning protection of load equipment on the first stage (Class B) of a power system. It limits transient overvoltages on the protected circuit and indicates its own status through a color-changing window.
Product Overview
The GBV-80 series is designed for installation at the first protection stage of a power system. The GBV-80-385-2FM-27 variant is a 2-pole FM model with a 27 mm width, rated at Uc 385 V and providing In 40 kA, Imax 80 kA, and Up 2.5 kV at In. It is a parallel-connected device that mounts on a 35 mm electrical DIN rail and is suitable for installation in LPZ1 or directly inside a distribution cabinet (switch box).

Applications
The GBV-80-385-2FM-27 is used for lightning protection and surge protection of load equipment on the first stage (Class B) of a power system. It can be installed in LPZ1 or directly inside a distribution cabinet (switch box).
Installation and Use
- Before installation, inspect the SPD. Do not install it if it shows any defect.
- Use the SPD only within the conditions stated in its technical table. Exceeding the upper limits may damage the SPD and the protected equipment.
- Installation must follow the relevant standards and specifications for the SPD and must be carried out by qualified personnel with the relevant certificates, ahead of the electronic equipment to be protected.
- The SPD can be installed in LPZ1 or directly inside a distribution cabinet (switch box).
- The SPD can be fixed on a 35 mm electrical DIN rail.
- Connect the SPD in parallel to the power line. “L/+” connects to the phase line or positive line; “N/-” connects to the neutral line or negative line. The copper conductor cross-section at both ends of the SPD is 10–35 mm².
- An overcurrent protection device such as an air switch or fuse must be installed ahead of the SPD in the circuit.
- Connect the SPD to ground using the shortest possible conductor. Grounding is by terminal connection; the “PE” ground conductor must be connected to the lightning protection ground.
- Keep the protected line at a sufficient safe distance from the incoming line and ground line to avoid secondary induction on the circuit.
- When installed within the specified conditions, the SPD does not require long-term maintenance; only routine system maintenance is needed. If the white indicator window turns red during use, the SPD is damaged and must be repaired or replaced.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do the indicator window colors mean?
White indicates normal operation; red indicates that the SPD has failed.
What is the maximum continuous operating voltage of this SPD?
The maximum continuous operating voltage Uc is 385 V.
How is the GBV-80-385-2FM-27 mounted?
It is mounted on a 35 mm electrical DIN rail and connected in parallel to the power line.
What conductor size is used for the connections?
The connection uses stranded copper conductor with a cross-section of 10–35 mm².
