Description
The GDV-20-385-2-FM is a Class III (D-level) surge protective device for AC power systems. It is intended for the second protection stage, installed ahead of load equipment to provide lightning and surge protection. The device limits transient overvoltages with a voltage protection level (Up) of 1.2kV at In and a response time of ≤25ns.
Product Overview
The GDV-20-385-2-FM operates at a maximum continuous voltage of 385V and handles a nominal discharge current of 10kA and a maximum discharge current of 20kA under the 8/20μs waveform. It is a parallel-connected device that mounts on a standard 35mm electrical DIN rail and can be installed in LPZ2 or directly inside a distribution cabinet (switch box). A status window shows green for normal operation and red for a failed device.

Applications
The GDV-20-385-2-FM is used for lightning and surge protection of load equipment in AC power systems at the second protection stage (Class III / D-level). It can be installed in LPZ2 or directly in a distribution cabinet (switch box).
Installation and Use
- Inspect the surge protective device before installation. Do not install a device that shows any defect.
- Use the device only within the conditions specified in the technical table. Exceeding the upper limits may damage the device or the protected equipment.
- Installation must follow the relevant standards and codes for the device and must be performed by qualified personnel with the appropriate certification, ahead of the electronic equipment to be protected.
- The device can be installed in LPZ2 or directly in a distribution cabinet (switch box).
- Mount the device on a 35mm electrical DIN rail.
- Connect the device in parallel to the power line: “L” to the live line and “N” to the neutral line. The copper conductor cross-section at both ends of the device is 4-16mm².
- Install an overcurrent protection device, such as an air switch or fuse, ahead of the surge protective device in the circuit.
- Connect the ground with the shortest possible wire. The device uses terminal grounding; the ground wire must be connected to the lightning protection ground.
- Keep the protected line at a sufficient safe distance from the incoming line and ground line to avoid secondary induction.
- Under conditions not exceeding the specified requirements, the device does not require long-term maintenance; only routine system maintenance is needed. If the green indicator window turns red during use, the device is damaged and must be repaired or replaced.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the indicator window show?
Green indicates normal operation; red indicates the device has failed and needs repair or replacement.
What is the backup fuse rating?
The specified backup fuse is 32Agl/gG.
What conductor size is used for connection?
The connection uses stranded copper conductors with a cross-section of 4-16mm².
What is the operating temperature range?
The device operates from -40℃ to +80℃.
