Description

The GCV-40-385-3+1 FM is a Class II surge protective device (SPD) intended for lightning overvoltage protection of three-phase AC power supplies. It combines L-N and N-PE protection paths in one unit, with a nominal discharge current In of 20kA and a maximum discharge current Imax of 40kA.

Product Overview

The device is rated for a nominal operating voltage Un of 220V/380V. The L-N maximum continuous operating voltage Uc is 385V/440V, and the N-PE maximum continuous operating voltage Uc is 255V~. Voltage protection levels are 1.8kV for the L-N path and 1.0kV for the N-PE path, both measured at In with an 8/20µs waveform.

Each protection path has its own status indicator: green for normal operation and red for a failed state. A changeover remote-signaling contact allows the operating state to be monitored remotely.

Applications

The GCV-40-385-3+1 FM is used for Class II lightning overvoltage protection of three-phase AC power supplies. It is suitable for installation at distribution points where three-phase AC power requires surge protection with L-N and N-PE paths.

Installation and Use

The device can be connected using the conventional direct parallel wiring method or the V-shaped wiring method. For better protection performance with direct parallel wiring, keep the wiring as short as possible, with a total length within 0.5m.

Use 10-25mm² multi-core copper conductors for the connection. A suitable circuit breaker or fuse must be connected upstream of the SPD; the circuit breaker should have a C trip characteristic.

Disconnect the power supply before installation. Live operation is strictly prohibited, and the connecting conductors must meet the specified requirements.

During normal operation, the status indicator window should be green. When the SPD has failed, the status indication turns red. The SPD requires no special maintenance; periodically check whether the modules are loose and whether the status indication is normal.

The SPD can be judged as failed and should be replaced promptly if either of the following occurs: the status indication turns red, or the alarm dry contact changes to an open-circuit state.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the status indicator show?

The L-N and N-PE status indicators are green during normal operation and red when the device has failed.

How is the SPD mounted?

It is mounted on a 35mm DIN rail.

What conductor size is used for connection?

Use 10-25mm² multi-core copper conductors, with a maximum torque of 3.2Nm~3.7Nm.

How can a failed SPD be identified?

A failed SPD shows a red status indication, or its alarm dry contact changes to an open-circuit state.
