Description

The GCV-40-385-1+1-FM is a Class II surge protective device (SPD) designed for single-phase AC power systems. It limits transient overvoltages at the L-N and N-PE paths, with a nominal discharge current In of 20kA and a maximum discharge current Imax of 40kA under the 8/20µs waveform. The device is intended for use as second-stage (Class C) surge protection for load equipment in power distribution systems.

Product Overview

The GCV-40-385-1+1-FM is a single-phase AC power surge protective device classified as Class II. It is designed to be installed in LPZ1 zones or directly inside distribution cabinets (switch boxes). The SPD connects in parallel to the power line and provides protection across L-N and N-PE paths. A status indicator window shows green during normal operation and red when the device has failed. An optional remote signaling contact provides a changeover contact (NC-COM-NO) for alarm monitoring.

Applications

The GCV-40-385-1+1-FM is used for second-stage (Class C) lightning and surge protection of load equipment in single-phase AC power systems. It can be installed in LPZ1 zones or directly in distribution cabinets (switch boxes). Typical applications include protection of electronic equipment downstream of the main distribution point in single-phase power installations.

Installation and Use

  • The SPD can be installed in LPZ1 zones or directly inside distribution cabinets (switch boxes).
  • Mount the device on a 35mm electrical DIN rail.
  • Connect the SPD in parallel to the power line. “L/+” connects to the phase line or positive line; “N/-” connects to the neutral line or negative line.
  • Use multi-core copper conductors of 10-25mm² for connection. When using direct parallel connection, keep the total wiring length within 0.5m for better protection effect.
  • Install a suitable air circuit breaker or fuse upstream of the SPD. Use a circuit breaker with C trip characteristic.
  • Disconnect power before installation. Live operation is strictly prohibited. Connecting conductors must meet the requirements.
  • Connect the ground terminal to earth with the shortest possible conductor. The grounding connection must be well bonded to earth.
  • Keep the protected line at a sufficient safe distance from the incoming line and ground line to avoid secondary induction effects.
  • During normal operation, the status indicator window is green. When the SPD has failed, the indicator turns red.
  • The SPD requires no special maintenance; perform regular checks for module looseness and status indication.
  • Replace the SPD if the status indicator turns red or if the alarm dry contact becomes open circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the status indicator mean?

Green indicates normal operation. Red indicates the SPD has failed and needs repair or replacement.

What is the maximum discharge current of this SPD?

The maximum discharge current Imax is 40kA under the 8/20µs waveform.

What conductor size is recommended for connection?

Use multi-core copper conductors of 10-25mm². The conductor connection capacity is ≤25mm².

How is the SPD mounted?

The device mounts on a 35mm electrical DIN rail and connects in parallel to the power line.
