Description

The GCV-40/385/3+1 FM is a Class II surge protective device (SPD) designed for lightning overvoltage protection of three-phase AC power supplies. It is configured as a 3+1 pole device, providing L-N protection and an N-PE path, with a nominal discharge current In of 20kA and a maximum discharge current Imax of 40kA.

Product Overview

The SPD has a nominal operating voltage Un of 220V~. The maximum continuous operating voltage Uc is 385V~ for L-N and 255V~ for N-PE. Voltage protection level Up at In (8/20µs) is 1.8kV for L-N and 1.0kV for N-PE. Response time tA is 25ns for L-N and 100ns for N-PE.

The device is intended for DIN rail installation and includes a status indicator window that shows green during normal operation and red when the SPD has failed. A remote signalling changeover contact is provided for monitoring.

Applications

The GCV-40/385/3+1 FM is used for Class II lightning overvoltage protection of three-phase AC power supplies. It is suitable for installation in AC power distribution systems where a 3+1 pole SPD configuration is required.

Installation and Use

The SPD can be connected using the conventional direct parallel wiring or V-shaped wiring shown in the wiring diagram. For better protection performance with direct parallel wiring, keep the connection conductors as short as possible, with a total length controlled within 0.5m.

Connection conductors should be 10-25mm² multi-strand copper conductors. A suitable circuit breaker or fuse must be connected in series ahead of the SPD; the circuit breaker should have a C trip characteristic.

Power must be disconnected before installation. Live operation is strictly prohibited, and the connection conductors must meet the specified requirements.

During normal operation, the status indicator window should be green. When the SPD has failed, the status indicator turns red. The SPD requires no special maintenance; only periodic checks are needed to confirm that the module is not loose and that the status indication is normal.

The SPD can be judged as failed and should be replaced promptly if either of the following occurs: the status indicator turns red, or the alarm dry contact changes to an open-circuit state.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the status indicator show?

The status indicator window is green during normal operation and turns red when the SPD has failed.

How is the SPD mounted?

It is mounted on a 35mm DIN rail.

What conductor size is used for connection?

Connection conductors should be 10-25mm² multi-strand copper conductors, and the conductor connection capacity is ≤25mm².

How can a failed SPD be identified?

A failed SPD is indicated by a red status indicator or by the alarm dry contact changing to an open-circuit state.
