Description

The G1V-80-385-B+C FM is a pluggable AC power surge protective device designed for Class B+C surge and lightning protection of load equipment in three-phase AC power systems. It is installed directly into a plug-in chassis and connects to the power line in parallel or in a V-shaped configuration.

Product Overview

The G1V-80-385-B+C FM belongs to the G1V-80 series of AC power surge protective devices. It limits transient overvoltages on the protected AC line and provides a failure indication plus a remote signalling contact for status monitoring. The device is intended for installation by qualified personnel holding the relevant certificates, ahead of the electronic equipment requiring protection.

Applications

The G1V-80-385-B+C FM is used for Class B+C surge and lightning protection of load equipment in three-phase AC power systems. It is installed directly inside a plug-in chassis and protects the electronic equipment connected downstream on the AC power line.

Installation and Use

  • Inspect the surge protective device before installation. Do not install the device if it shows any defect.
  • Use the device only within the conditions stated in its technical table. Exceeding the given upper limits may damage the surge protective device and the protected equipment.
  • Installation must follow the relevant standards and specifications for the device and must be carried out by qualified personnel holding the relevant certificates, ahead of the electronic equipment requiring protection.
  • The G1V-80 series surge protective device is installed directly into a plug-in chassis.
  • Connect the surge protective device to the power line in parallel or in a V-shaped configuration. “L/+” connects to the power phase line or the positive power line; “N/-” connects to the power neutral line or the negative power line.
  • An overcurrent protection device such as an air switch or fuse must be installed ahead of the surge protective device on the circuit.
  • Connect the surge protective device to ground using the shortest possible cable. Grounding is by terminal connection, and the grounding conductor must be connected to the lightning protection ground.
  • Keep the protected line at a sufficient safe distance from the incoming line and the ground line to avoid secondary induction on the line.
  • When installed within the specified conditions, the surge protective device does not require long-term maintenance; only routine system maintenance is needed. If the green indicator window turns red during use, the surge protective device is damaged and must be repaired or replaced.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the indicator window show?

Green indicates normal operation; red indicates that the device has failed. A red window means the surge protective device is damaged and must be repaired or replaced.

What is the difference between the L/N and N-PE protection levels?

The L/N voltage protection level Up is ≤1.8kV, while the N-PE voltage protection level Up is ≤1.6kV. The corresponding response times are 25nS for L/N and 100nS for N-PE.

What backup fuse is specified?

The specified backup fuse is 80Agl/gG.

How is the device installed?

It is a hot-swap device installed directly into a plug-in chassis, connected to the power line in parallel or in a V-shaped configuration, with an overcurrent protection device installed ahead of it.
