Description
The GU-220 is a signal twisted-pair surge protective device intended for surge protection of analog and digital signal communication lines. It is installed directly at the front end of the equipment or system being protected, as close as possible to that equipment, and is connected in series with the protected line.
Product Overview
The GU-220 protects signal communication circuits against surge events. Its nominal working voltage Un is 110V and its maximum continuous operating voltage Uc is 220V. The device carries a nominal discharge current In of 5kA and a maximum discharge current Imax of 10kA, with a voltage protection level Up of ≤500V and a response time tA of 1ns.
The device is rated for a load current IL of 500mA and has an insertion loss of ≤0.5dB at 30MHz. It is housed in a 90mm × 62mm × 18mm body with a UL94-V0 flame rating and an IP20 enclosure protection rating, and it mounts on a 35mm DIN rail.

Applications
The GU-220 is suitable for surge protection of analog and digital signal communication lines. It is installed at the front end of the equipment or system being protected, connected in series with the signal line.
Installation and Use
- Install the GU-220 directly at the front end of the equipment or system being protected, as close as possible to that equipment.
- The device can be connected in series as shown in the wiring diagram. For better protection performance, keep the grounding conductor as short as possible, with a total length controlled within 0.5m.
- Use 1–2.5mm² multi-core copper conductors for the connecting wires.
- The “IN” lead is the incoming line end and the “OUT” lead connects to the equipment or system being protected. The two line sections must be routed separately and must not be bundled together, to prevent secondary induction.
- When installed within the specified conditions, the device does not require long-term maintenance; only routine system maintenance is needed. If a signal transmission problem occurs and normal transmission resumes after the surge protective device is replaced, the device has been damaged and must be repaired or replaced.
