Description
The GCV-40-75DC-1FM is a Class II DC power surge protective device (SPD) designed for lightning overvoltage protection on DC power circuits. It protects the V+/V- to PE path, with a nominal operating voltage Un of 48 V DC and a maximum continuous operating voltage Uc of 75 V DC at V+/V- -PE. Its nominal discharge current In is 20 kA and its maximum discharge current Imax is 40 kA, both tested with the 8/20 µs waveform.
Product Overview
The SPD is intended for Class II lightning overvoltage protection of DC power supplies. Protection is provided between V+/V- and PE, with a voltage protection level Up of 600 V at In (8/20 µs) and a response time tA of 25 ns at V+/V- -PE. A front status window shows green when the device is normal and red when it has failed, and a changeover signalling contact allows remote monitoring of the SPD state.

Applications
The GCV-40-75DC-1FM is used for Class II lightning overvoltage protection of DC power supplies. It is suitable for DC power circuits operating at a nominal 48 V DC with a maximum continuous voltage of 75 V DC at V+/V- -PE, and for installations where remote monitoring of the SPD status is required through the changeover signalling contact.
Installation and Use
The SPD can be connected in the conventional direct parallel configuration or in a V-shaped configuration. For better protection with direct parallel connection, wiring should be as short as possible, with a total length controlled within 0.5 m. Connecting conductors should be 4-16 mm² multi-core copper conductors.
A suitable circuit breaker or fuse must be connected in series ahead of the SPD; the circuit breaker should have a C trip characteristic. The power supply must be disconnected during installation; live operation is strictly prohibited, and connecting conductors must meet the specified requirements.
When the SPD is operating normally, the status indicator window is green, the alarm dry contact NC-COM is conducting, and the alarm dry contact NO-COM is open. When the SPD has failed, the status indicator turns red, the alarm dry contact NC-COM becomes open, and the alarm dry contact NO-COM becomes conducting.
The SPD requires no special maintenance; periodic checks should confirm that the module is not loose and that the status indication is normal. The SPD should be replaced promptly if either of the following occurs: the status indicator turns red, or the alarm dry contact changes to the open state.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the status indicator show?
The status window shows green when the SPD is normal and red when it has failed. When the indicator turns red, the NC-COM contact becomes open and the NO-COM contact becomes conducting.
How is the SPD mounted and connected?
It mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail. Conductors of 4-16 mm² multi-core copper are used for connection, and the terminal connection capacity is ≤25 mm² with a maximum torque of 3.2 Nm to 3.7 Nm.
What series protection is required ahead of the SPD?
A suitable circuit breaker or fuse must be connected in series ahead of the SPD, and the circuit breaker should have a C trip characteristic.
When should the SPD be replaced?
Replace the SPD if the status indicator turns red or if the alarm dry contact changes to the open state.
