Description

The GCV-40/350DC-2-FM is a Class II DC power surge protective device designed for lightning overvoltage protection of DC power systems. It limits transient overvoltages at the V+/V- -PE path with a voltage protection level of 1.5kV at In (8/20µs) and a response time of 25ns, and it installs on a standard 35mm DIN rail.

Product Overview

The GCV-40/350DC-2-FM is a two-pole DC surge protective device classified as Class II. It is intended for the second stage of DC power surge protection, limiting surge energy at the protected equipment terminals. The device uses a status indicator window that shows green during normal operation and red when the module has failed, and it can be supplied with a remote signaling changeover contact for alarm monitoring.

Applications

The GCV-40/350DC-2-FM is used for Class II lightning overvoltage protection of DC power supplies. It is suitable for installation in LPZ1 zones or directly inside distribution cabinets (switch boxes) to protect downstream DC equipment from surge overvoltages.

Installation and Use

  • The device can be connected in conventional direct parallel wiring or in V-shaped wiring. For better protection with direct parallel wiring, keep the total conductor length within 0.5m.
  • Use 4-16mm² multi-strand copper conductors for the main connection.
  • Install a suitable air circuit breaker or fuse ahead of the SPD; use a C-trip characteristic for the circuit breaker.
  • Disconnect power before installation. Do not operate while energized. Ensure all connecting conductors meet the requirements.
  • Connect the SPD in parallel to the power line: “L/+” to the positive DC line and “N/-” to the negative DC line. The grounding terminal must be connected to the lightning protection ground with the shortest possible conductor.
  • Keep the protected line at a sufficient safe distance from the incoming line and ground line to avoid secondary induction.
  • During normal operation the status window is green; when the SPD has failed the status window turns red.
  • No special maintenance is required. Periodically check that the module is not loose and that the status indication is normal.
  • Replace the SPD if the status indicator turns red or if the alarm dry contact changes to an open state.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the status indicator mean?

A green status window indicates normal operation. A red status window indicates the SPD has failed and should be replaced.

How is the GCV-40/350DC-2-FM mounted?

It mounts on a standard 35mm DIN rail and connects in parallel to the DC power line.

What conductor size is recommended?

Use 4-16mm² multi-strand copper conductors for the main connection. The terminal accepts conductors up to 25mm², and the remote signaling terminals accept conductors up to 1.5mm².

Does the device provide remote alarm signaling?

Yes, an optional remote signaling changeover contact (NC-COM-NO) is available for status monitoring.
