Description
The GDV-20/385/3+1 FM is a Class II surge protective device (SPD) designed for lightning overvoltage protection of three-phase AC power supplies. It is configured as a 3+1 pole arrangement, providing L-N protection and an N-PE path, and is intended for installation on a 35 mm DIN rail.
Product Overview
The SPD limits transient overvoltages on three-phase AC circuits. Its nominal discharge current In is 10 kA and its maximum discharge current Imax is 20 kA. The L-N voltage protection level Up (at In, 8/20 µs) is ≤1.5 kV, and the N-PE voltage protection level Up (at In, 8/20 µs) is ≤1.0 kV. Response time tA is 25 ns for L-N and 100 ns for N-PE.
Status indication is provided for both L-N and N-PE paths: green indicates normal operation and red indicates a failed state. A changeover remote signaling contact allows the operating state to be monitored remotely.

Applications
The GDV-20/385/3+1 FM is used for Class II lightning overvoltage protection of three-phase AC power supplies. It is suitable for installation at the AC power intake of equipment and systems requiring surge protection on L-N and N-PE paths.
Installation and Use
- The SPD may be connected in the conventional direct parallel arrangement. For better protection, keep the connecting conductors as short as possible, with a total length controlled within 0.5 m.
- Connecting conductors should be multi-core copper conductors of 6 mm² or larger.
- A suitable circuit breaker or fuse must be connected in series ahead of the SPD. For a circuit breaker, use a C tripping characteristic.
- The power supply must be disconnected before installation. Live operation is strictly prohibited, and connecting conductors must meet the requirements.
- During normal operation, the status indicator should be green.
- The SPD requires no special maintenance; periodically check whether the module is loose and whether the status indication is normal.
- The SPD is considered failed and must be replaced promptly if either of the following occurs: the status indication turns red, or the alarm dry contact changes to an open-circuit state.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a red status indicator mean?
A red status indication means the SPD has failed and should be replaced promptly. A green indication means normal operation.
How is the SPD mounted?
The device is mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail.
What conductor size and torque are specified?
The conductor connection capacity is ≤25 mm², and the maximum torque is 3.2 Nm to 3.7 Nm. Installation conductors should be multi-core copper conductors of 6 mm² or larger.
What are the remote signaling contact ratings?
The remote signaling contact is a changeover contact rated 250V/0.5A AC and 125V/0.2A DC.
