Description
The GDV-20-385-2 is a 2-pole AC power surge protective device from the GDV-20 series, intended for second-level (Class C) lightning and surge protection of load equipment in power systems. It limits transient overvoltages on the protected circuit and is installed in parallel with the power line.
Product Overview
The GDV-20 series is used for second-level (Class C) lightning protection and surge protection of load equipment in power systems. The GDV-20-385-2 variant is the 2-pole version, with a maximum continuous operating voltage Uc of 385 V and a voltage protection level Up of 1.2 kV at In. A status window shows green when the device is normal and red when it has failed.

Applications
The GDV-20-385-2 is intended for second-level (Class C) lightning protection and surge protection of load equipment in power systems. It can be installed in LPZ1 zones or directly inside distribution cabinets (switch boxes).
Installation and Use
- Before installation, inspect the surge protective device. Do not install it if it shows any defect.
- Use the device only within the conditions stated in its technical table. Exceeding the given upper limits may damage the surge protective device or the protected equipment.
- Installation must follow the relevant standards and specifications for the device and must be carried out by qualified personnel with the relevant certification, ahead of the electronic equipment to be protected.
- The device can be installed in an LPZ1 zone or directly in a distribution cabinet (switch box).
- It can be fixed on a 35 mm electrical DIN rail.
- Connect the surge protective device in parallel to the power line. “L/+” connects to the phase line or positive line; “N/-” connects to the neutral line or negative line. The copper conductor cross-section at both ends of the device is 10–35 mm².
- For a surge protective device installed on a circuit, an overcurrent protection device such as an air switch or fuse must be added at the front end.
- Connect the ground of the surge protective device with the shortest possible cable. Grounding is by terminal, and the ground conductor must be connected to the lightning protection ground line.
- Keep sufficient safety distance between the protected line and the incoming line and ground line to avoid secondary induction on the line.
- Under conditions not exceeding the specified requirements, the device does not require long-term maintenance; only routine system maintenance is needed. If the green indicator window turns red during use, the surge protective device has failed and must be repaired or replaced.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the status window indicate?
Green indicates normal operation; red indicates that the device has failed and needs repair or replacement.
How is the GDV-20-385-2 connected?
It is connected in parallel to the power line. “L/+” connects to the phase or positive line, and “N/-” connects to the neutral or negative line, with a copper conductor cross-section of 10–35 mm².
What overcurrent protection is required ahead of the device?
An air switch or fuse must be installed at the front end of the circuit, and the specified backup fuse is 32Agl/gG.
Where can the device be installed?
It can be installed in an LPZ1 zone or directly in a distribution cabinet (switch box), fixed on a 35 mm electrical DIN rail.
