Description

The GCV-40-385-3+1 is a 3+1 configuration surge protective device in the GCV40 series, designed for second-stage (Class C) lightning protection and surge protection of load equipment in power supply systems. It limits transient overvoltages on the AC power line and provides a separate N-PE protection path.

Product Overview

The GCV40 series is used for second-stage (Class C) lightning and surge protection of load equipment in power supply systems. The GCV-40-385-3+1 variant combines a 3+1 pole configuration with a 385V maximum continuous operating voltage on the line conductors and a dedicated N-PE path rated 255V Uc. The SPD is connected in parallel to the power circuit and is installed on a 35 mm electrical DIN rail.

Key Features

Applications

The GCV-40-385-3+1 is intended for second-stage (Class C) lightning protection and surge protection of load equipment in power supply systems. It can be installed in LPZ1 zones or directly inside distribution cabinets (switch boxes).

Installation and Use

  • Inspect the SPD before installation. Do not install the device if it shows any defect.
  • Use the SPD only within the conditions stated in its technical data. Exceeding the given upper limits may damage the SPD itself or the equipment being protected.
  • Installation must follow the relevant standards and specifications for the protective device, and must be carried out by qualified personnel in front of the electronic equipment to be protected.
  • The SPD can be installed in an LPZ1 zone or directly in a distribution cabinet (switch box).
  • The SPD can be fixed on a 35 mm electrical DIN rail.
  • The SPD is connected in parallel to the power line. “L/+” connects to the phase conductor or positive line; “N/-” connects to the neutral conductor or negative line. The copper conductor cross-section at both ends of the SPD is 10-35mm².
  • An overcurrent protective device such as an air switch or fuse must be installed ahead of the SPD in the circuit.
  • Connect the SPD ground with the shortest possible conductor. Grounding is by terminal, and the ground conductor must be connected to the lightning protection ground.
  • Keep sufficient safety distance between the protected line and the incoming line and ground conductor to avoid secondary induction on the line.
  • Under conditions not exceeding the specified requirements, the SPD does not require long-term maintenance; only routine system maintenance is needed. If the green indicator window turns red during use, the SPD is damaged and must be repaired or replaced.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the green and red indicator window mean?

Green indicates the SPD is normal; red indicates the SPD has failed. If the window turns red during use, the device is damaged and must be repaired or replaced.

How is the GCV-40-385-3+1 connected?

It is connected in parallel to the power line. “L/+” connects to the phase conductor or positive line, and “N/-” connects to the neutral conductor or negative line. The ground terminal must be connected to the lightning protection ground using the shortest possible conductor.

What conductor cross-section is used for the connections?

The copper conductor cross-section at both ends of the SPD is 10-35mm², using stranded conductors.

What overcurrent protection is required ahead of the SPD?

An air switch or fuse must be installed ahead of the SPD in the circuit. The specified backup fuse is 32Agl/gG.
