Description
The G1V-40/85DC-FM is a Class II DC power surge protective device (SPD) intended for lightning overvoltage protection of DC power supplies. It limits transient overvoltages with a voltage protection level Up of ≤0.6 kV at In under an 8/20 µs waveform and responds within 25 ns. The plug-in module is hot-swappable and provides a local degradation indicator plus an NC-COM remote signalling contact.
Product Overview
The G1V-40/85DC-FM is a DC power surge protective device classified as Class II. It is designed for lightning overvoltage protection on DC power circuits, with a maximum continuous operating voltage Uc of 85 Vdc. Protection performance is defined by a nominal discharge current In of 20 kA, a maximum discharge current Imax of 40 kA, and a voltage protection level Up of ≤0.6 kV measured at In with an 8/20 µs waveform. The module installs by hot swap into a frame and reports its status through a colour indicator and a remote signalling contact.

Applications
The G1V-40/85DC-FM is used for Class II lightning overvoltage protection of DC power supplies, where the DC system operating voltage does not exceed the specified maximum continuous operating voltage Uc of 85 Vdc. It is suited to installations that require local status indication and remote monitoring of the SPD state through a signalling contact.
Installation and Use
The device is installed by hot swap into a frame. Insertion depth is 17 to 19 mm for the main busbar and 11 to 12 mm for the signalling connection. Insertion and withdrawal force is ≤80 N and ≤75 N respectively, and the device is rated for 200 insertion and withdrawal cycles. Installation altitude should not exceed 3000 m, and the operating environment should remain within -40 °C to +80 °C with relative humidity ≤95%.
During normal operation the alarm contact NC-COM is conductive (closed). When the SPD has degraded, the NC-COM alarm contact is open. The local degradation indicator shows green when the device is normal and red when it is degraded.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the green and red indicator mean?
Green indicates the SPD is normal; red indicates the SPD is degraded.
How does the remote signalling contact behave?
The NC-COM contact is normally closed and conductive while the SPD is working normally. When the SPD fails, the NC-COM contact opens.
What is the maximum continuous operating voltage?
The maximum continuous operating voltage Uc is 85 Vdc.
Can the module be replaced while installed?
The device uses a hot-swap installation method and is rated for 200 insertion and withdrawal cycles.
