Description
The GBV-80-385-4 is a Class I AC power surge protective device intended for lightning overvoltage protection of three-phase AC power supplies. It is rated for a nominal operating voltage Un of 220V~ and a maximum continuous operating voltage Uc of 385V~, with nominal discharge current In of 40kA and maximum discharge current Imax of 80kA.
Product Overview
The device limits transient overvoltages on AC power lines. At the nominal discharge current In under an 8/20µs waveform, the voltage protection level Up is 2.5kV for the L-N path and 1.8kV for the N-PE path. Response times are 25ns for L-N and 100ns for N-PE.
A status indicator window shows white during normal operation and red when the device has failed. A remote signaling changeover contact (NC-COM-NO) is provided for status monitoring.

Applications
The GBV-80-385-4 is used for Class I lightning overvoltage protection of three-phase AC power supply systems. It is suitable for installation at AC power distribution points where surge protection against transient overvoltages is required.
Installation and Use
The device can be connected in direct parallel wiring or V-shaped wiring as shown in the wiring diagram. For better protection performance with direct parallel wiring, keep the wiring as short as possible, with total length controlled within 0.5m.
Connection conductors should be 16-35mm² multi-core copper conductors. A suitable air circuit breaker or fuse must be connected in series at the front end of the device; the air circuit breaker should use C trip characteristics.
Power must be disconnected during installation. Live operation is strictly prohibited, and connecting conductors must meet the requirements.
During normal operation, the status indicator window is white and the alarm dry contact NC-COM is in the conducting state. When the device fails, the status indicator turns red and the alarm dry contact NC-COM becomes open.
The device requires no special maintenance; only regular checks are needed to confirm that the module is not loose and that the status indication is normal.
The device is considered failed and should be replaced promptly if either of the following occurs: the status indicator turns red, or the alarm dry contact becomes open.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the status indicator show?
The status indicator window is white during normal operation and turns red when the device has failed.
How is the remote signaling contact configured?
The remote signaling contact is a changeover contact with NC-COM-NO terminals. NC-COM is normally closed and NO-COM is normally open. The contact is rated 250V/0.5A AC and 125V/0.2A DC, with terminal conductor capacity of ≤1.5mm².
What conductor size is required for the main connections?
Main connection conductors should be 16-35mm² multi-core copper conductors, and the conductor connection capacity is ≤35mm².
When should the device be replaced?
Replace the device if the status indicator turns red or if the alarm dry contact becomes open.
