Description
The GCV-40-240DC-2FM is a Class II DC power surge protective device (SPD) designed for lightning overvoltage protection on DC power supplies. It protects the V+/V- to PE path with a maximum continuous operating voltage Uc of 240 V DC and a voltage protection level Up of 1.35 kV at In (8/20 µs).
Product Overview
The SPD is classified as Class II and is intended for DC power applications. Its nominal operating voltage Un is 220 V DC, and the V+/V- to PE maximum continuous operating voltage Uc is 240 V DC. The device provides a response time tA of 25 ns on the V+/V- to PE path and uses a status indicator window that shows green for normal operation and red for failure.

Applications
The GCV-40-240DC-2FM is used for Class II lightning overvoltage protection of DC power supplies. It is suitable for DC power circuits where the nominal operating voltage is 220 V DC and the maximum continuous operating voltage on the V+/V- to PE path does not exceed 240 V DC.
Installation and Use
The SPD can be connected using the conventional direct parallel wiring method or the V-shaped wiring method. For better protection performance with direct parallel wiring, the wiring should be as short as possible, with a total length controlled within 0.5 m.
Connecting conductors should be 4-16 mm² multi-core copper conductors. A suitable circuit breaker or fuse must be connected in series at the front end of the SPD; the circuit breaker should have a C trip characteristic. The power supply must be disconnected during installation; live operation is strictly prohibited, and connecting conductors must meet the requirements.
When the SPD is operating normally, the status indicator window should be green, the alarm dry contact NC-COM is conducting, and the alarm dry contact NO-COM is open. When the SPD has failed, the status indication turns red, the alarm dry contact NC-COM is open, and the alarm dry contact NO-COM is conducting.
The SPD requires no special maintenance; only periodic checks are needed to confirm whether the module is loose and whether the status indication is normal. If either of the following occurs, the SPD can be judged as failed and should be replaced promptly: the status indication turns red, or the alarm dry contact changes to the open state.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the status indicator show?
Green indicates normal operation, and red indicates failure. When the indication turns red, the SPD should be replaced promptly.
How are the remote signalling contacts configured?
The device uses a changeover contact, NC-COM-NO. NC-COM is normally closed and NO-COM is normally open. On failure, NC-COM becomes open and NO-COM becomes conducting.
What conductor size is used for the main connections?
Connecting conductors should be 4-16 mm² multi-core copper conductors. The terminal conductor connection capacity is ≤25 mm², and the remote signalling contact terminal capacity is ≤1.5 mm².
What is the maximum continuous operating voltage?
The V+/V- to PE maximum continuous operating voltage Uc is 240 V DC, with a nominal operating voltage Un of 220 V DC.
